In
the primary department we offer a broad and balanced timetable
in line with the guidelines of the British National Curriculum.
Our programme is tailored to meet the individual needs of each
child and to fit in with our international setting.
We use the Literacy
Strategy and the Numeracy Strategy. These are both based on
extensive, world wide research into the best methods
for teaching English and Maths. They both develop key skills in
a structured and organised way
while encouraging children to
use an
investigative approach to learning. They both work from the principle
that people learn best when they understand why they are learning
something and when they can see how it works.
While adopting the
British curriculum framework, we are keen to have an international
educational approach. In particular, we adapt
our
curriculum to our local environment - Uganda- and to the specific
backgrounds of our pupils. Our social studies has been re-molded
to explore world history and our local geography studies are
based around East Africa.
Computer Literacy plays such an important
role in today’s world
and the use of computers is considered as part of our daily
classroom experience as well as having specialist lessons.
Personal
and social development is as important as academic
achievement. We believe in helping our students to become
kind and thoughtful
individuals. We recognise the importance of nurturing communication
skills and teamwork. We want our students to take on responsibility
and become the leaders of future society. We would like our
students to recognise their role as global citizens.
