Ambrosoli has chosen to partner with Hands for Hope organization for the 2016 – 2017, which aims to alleviate extreme poverty and facilitate lasting change in the lives of some of the most vulnerable children and families living in the Namuwongo Slums, in Kampala. We can actually look out to the Namuwongo Slums from our school, which makes it more near and dear to our hearts.
This year’s focus with Hands for Hope is through child-centered activities and interaction, to promote social-emotional development. Our goal is for our students at Ambrosoli to engage in a wide variety of social and creative activities with the kids of Hands for Hope, such as tutoring, reading buddies, art projects, cultural dance, mentorship, sports, and much more!
Ambrosoli’s Community Service Team will exercise their leadership skills, as they create activities and reading/writing programs to engage in with the children of Hands for Hope. This will take place outside of school, during our students’ own personal time. We aim to help our students and the children of Hands for Hope to gain a sense of self worth, where they have the ability to understand their own feelings and interests, learn to work well with others that are different from them, and identify and comprehend the emotional state of others.
In addition, we will hold a clothing and shoe drive that will be ongoing until December 9th. This will give everyone an opportunity to clean out their closets, and rid themselves of shoes and clothing that aren’t being used. You know what they say… another man’s trash is another man’s treasure! So start going through your closets, and see what you can find for the kids of Hands for Hope!
Finally, we will continue our holiday shoe box gift drive again this year, but this time for Hands for Hope! We will ask everyone to find a shoe box at home, and fill it up with either new or gently used items for a girl or boy (equivalent to the gender and age of your child). We will announce more details in the newsletter soon!
We are very excited about this wonderful opportunity that Hands for Hope has given us, and plan to remain very active with their kids throughout this school year!
