Today Year One were Detectives investigating a variety of items from different time periods using encrypted clues. They dug for bones, came across varying tracks, uncovered artifacts from ancient civilizations and they even discovered an old explorers map in the library. Hanukkah in Year One

Today we had a special visitor, who talked to the children about Hanukkah a traditional Jewish celebration. They learnt about the background of Hanukkah and how Jewish people celebrate the 8 day festival of light by lighting a candle each day and placing it on the menorah. A trip to Italy!

On Thursday last week the children went on an excursion to the Italian Restaurant – Pizza Italia in Bugolobi. They thoroughly enjoyed the bus trip there even if it was just around the corner. After a lesson with the Head Chef about the wonders and specialties of Italy, the children got into making, designing, creating. They designed their own pizza before making one for themselves. Sweden….the land of the midnight sun!

Tuesday took us to Sweden where we saw Elk (Alg), the King and Queen, Pippi Longstockings, and many red houses. We found out that Stockholm is built on 14 islands and it has 57 bridges. We also learnt that the sun stays up for most of the day during summer, but is rarely seen in winter. To the Mountains of Switzerland!

On Monday we travelled to the European country of Switzerland. The children learnt that Switzerland has many mountains that you can hike in the summer and ski in the winter. Did you say Sinterklaas was in town?

On our virtual trip to the Netherlands we found out that Sinterklaas actually arrives on the 5th of December, but the Pietens are starting to deliver small toys and Pepernoten into Dutch children’s shoes. We went to Kenya last week and visited the National Parks. We used our binoculars to see the beautiful wild animals. After the Safari we decided to take a trip to the coast. A plane trip to Austria….not Australia!

On Monday afternoon the children took a plane to Austria. Although it is a relatively small country in Europe, the children discovered that it has a lot to offer. Virtual Trip to Israel

Today Year One was lucky enough to board the plane and head on a virtual trip to Israel. We visited the four seas, including the Red Sea, the Dead Sea, the Sea of Galilee and finally the Mediterranean Sea. Each Sea had its own wonders and specialty.
