Year 5 Entry Point – Existing, Endangered, Extinct

Brilliant Builders in Year 5!

  In order to develop our Design and Technology skills we have been working hard to create our own Mayan buildings. First we generated ideas as to what to build, then carefully sketched out our own plans. Next, we planned how we would build our models step-by-step.   Year 5 have been exploring ‘Shape’ this week in maths. We have been working really hard to develop our use of mathematical vocabulary and can now use terms like ‘parallel’, ‘perpendicular’, ‘angles’ and ‘symmetry’ while discussing properties of shape.  We explored shapes within the school environment, sorted regular and irregular shapes and even got creative while exploring traditional Chinese tangram puzzles. ...

Celebrating Uganda Week & UN Day

What an exciting week we have had in school! In recognition of Ugandan Independence Day on 9th October, we have been celebrating with a wide range of fun and cultural activities. Highlights have included a visit from the Uganda Cranes rugby team on Monday, Ugandan dance performances and lots of delicious Ugandan food tasting opportunities. Exciting IPC Entry Point

There was lots of excitement surrounding the Entry Point to our new IPC unit, ‘AD 900’, on Wednesday.  We explored lots of  Ugandan traditions, including stories from Tr. Josephat, traditional games with Tr. Ben, dancing with Tr. Rachel and craft activities using banana fibre with members of the support staff team. A Busy Week in Year 5!

We’ve had a busy week in Year 5 with lots of exciting learning opportunities.  We are totally gripped by the story of  Holes and have explored the character of Stanley this week while considering his thoughts and feelings. In IPC we’ve focused on growth vs fixed mindset and have agreed that having a growth mindset helps us to become more effective learners.
