In Year 5 we have been working on a unit of Poetry over the past couple of weeks. The children have read a wide range of poems, shared opinions, identified key features and performed their favourites. This week they have been writing their own poems on the theme of ‘Water’ to link to our IPC unit. Please enjoy some of their poems below.

Water water everywhere

Water water everywhere                                                                                                                                                                Make sure that you always share                                                                                                                                                  Some people don’t have enough                                                                                                                                                     And that is just really tough.

Water water everywhere                                                                                                                                                                Some people don’t always care                                                                                                                                                    Wasting water is not the way                                                                                                                                                        Some don’t have enough to pay.

Water water everywhere                                                                                                                                                              Water here and water there                                                                                                                                                                Be grateful for what you’ve got                                                                                                                                                  Others don’t have a lot!

Water Water Everywhere

Water water everywhere,

Waves splashing and crashing.

Water water everywhere,

Raindrops falling from the sky.

Water water everywhere,

Puddles to jump into.

Water water everywhere,

To drink and keep me hydrated.

Water water everywhere,

A pool to swim in and keep cool.

Water water everywhere,

But not for wasting.

Water-Water Everywhere

Water water everywhere

To have it dirty you’ll be in despair.

It is nice to keep it clean

Or you’ll have something that’s never been seen!

It’s better when filtered don’t you know

It helps us think and also go

Try not to get it dirty

Or you won’t even live til 30!

Some people have such  good luck

But others do not have a buck

So many people live in despair

This world really is not fair.

Puddles are so much fun

Underestimated, undoubtedly the best thing

Dry not,rather wet and messy

Destroying clothes, shoes and socks

Lovely to splash around in

Enormous fun every one and very messy,YES!

Water Water Everywhere

Water water everywhere

In the taps and in the air

Water vapor in the clouds

When it turns to rain it is very loud

Washing our hands and washing our hair

Swimming, splashing and jumping in the air

Drinking when we have thirst

Growing our food, water comes first

Without clean water we get sick

We must filter it, that’s the trick

Floods and tsunamis are the worst

We can make a dam, hope it doesn’t burst!

Rainy days can be less fun

All day long the rain doesn’t stop

I sit at my window looking at the sky

Nothing else can pass the time

Y are we still inside, the weather’s nice, come take a ride.

Drip drop, Drop drip, dreams of droplets fill your head,

All day long

Yellow coats on.
