In IPC the children have been extremely motivated while researching how wind power is generated and how wind turbines work. We are learning about Instruction Texts

In English we have started a new non-fiction unit about Instructions and Explanations. We have written definitions and explored the key features of instruction texts. The children especially enjoyed developing their understanding that instructions must be ordered correctly. Making Things Go – Entry Point

In Year 5 the children were very motivated by the Entry Point to our new unit – Making Things Go. While building parachutes and paper rockets and exploring a variety of moving toys, we investigated how to impact speed and distance traveled and considered the forces which were making items move. Investigating Absorbency

In Year 5 we have been building upon our skills of scientific investigation. The children planned and conducted an investigation into the absorbency of different types of paper. They carefully devised their own step-by-step method, thought carefully about how to ensure they were carrying out a fair test and attempted to record methodical, accurately measured observations.
